“Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood and untreated cause of human suffering.”
Peter Levine
Trauma-responsive childcare and respite support are hard to find. We know that the right kind of practical support at home can make a huge difference to your resilience as a family.
The Belay Foundation has specialist knowledge in this area. We’re experienced in recruiting, training and supporting Specialist Support Workers to fit into your family, take time to understand your children and offer attachment-focused practical help. We encourage long-term, relationship-based working so your Specialist Support Worker becomes a trusted part of all your lives. By offering training and ongoing support our Specialist Support Workers value their role and gain meaningful work experience. We work across England and Wales and deliver the majority of our services online.
For a small number of families we are able to offer a recruitment and employment service to help you from start to finish. This number of families is dependent on the funding we are able to secure to resource our team.
If we are currently unable to work with new families in this way, we may still be able to help you. To find out more about this, please get in touch.
“The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely he will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.”
Bruce Perry
Do you already have a Teaching Assistant, Personal Assistant or Learning Support Assistant working with your child? Perhaps you have a childminder, nanny or friends and family offering childcare. Would you like them to understand your child’s needs better?
We offer training and support to help those helping our children. We provide training in developmental trauma and attachment disruption, based on the Dyadic Developmental Practice approach to understanding early trauma Dyadic Developmental Practice – DDP Network. Responding to the complex needs of our children we also incorporate the impacts of FASD (foetal alcohol spectrum disorder) and neurodivergence such as ASD, ADHD and PDA. Delivered in e-learning and live online sessions we are able to connect with supporters across the country.
In addition to training, we offer ongoing support in the form of group supervision (also known as group reflective practice). Online group sessions are available multiple times each month. These are supportive and informative, focusing on developing trauma-responsive practice as well as supporting wellbeing.
